Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the PACBR, PAs must meet the following requirements:

* Be a licensed PA in good standing * Have completed a minimum of 2,000 hours of supervised clinical practice in psychiatry * Have earned a master's degree or higher in PA studies from an accredited program * Have successfully completed a psychiatry residency or fellowship

Exam Structure

The PACBR is a computer-based exam that consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. The questions cover a wide range of topics in psychiatry, including:

* Diagnosis and assessment * Treatment planning and implementation * Psychopharmacology * Psychotherapy * Ethics and legal issues

The exam is timed, and candidates have 4 hours to complete it.

Study Resources

There are a variety of study resources available to help PAs prepare for the PACBR. Some of the most popular resources include:

* The PA Psychiatry Review Guide from the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) * The Psychiatry Review for Physician Assistants from PsychPRO * The PA Psychiatry Board Review Course from Kaplan

Taking the Exam

The PACBR is offered several times per year at testing centers throughout the United States. Candidates must register for the exam in advance.

On the day of the exam, candidates should arrive at the testing center early. They will be required to present their identification and provide a digital photograph.

Once the exam begins, candidates will have 4 hours to complete the 200 multiple-choice questions. The exam is computer-based, and candidates will be able to use a virtual calculator.

Scoring and Results

The PACBR is scored on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 70 or higher is considered passing.

Candidates will receive their exam results within 6 weeks of taking the exam. If a candidate does not pass the exam, they will be provided with a score report that will detail their performance on each section of the exam.

Recertification

PAs who are certified in psychiatry must recertify every 10 years. To recertify, PAs must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education (CME) in psychiatry. The CME must be relevant to the practice of psychiatry and must be approved by the AAPA.

The PACBR is a challenging but important exam for PAs who specialize in psychiatry. By following the tips outlined in this article, PAs can increase their chances of passing the exam and becoming certified in psychiatry.
